STEP 1 CHECK YOUR CURRENT ROUTER

If you already own a router, please refer to our specifications so that you can be sure that it will be compatible and suitable with our network. If you plan on purchasing a new router to use for our service, these guidelines can help you find a router that fits your needs.

 

STEP 2 DETERMINE SQUARE FOOTAGE

Knowing the size of your home is crucial in selecting a router with adequate coverage. Use the following general guidelines:

  • Small apartments or homes (up to 1,000 sq. ft.): Basic routers with a range of 1,500 sq. ft. should suffice.

  • Medium-sized homes (1,000 to 2,500 sq. ft.): Opt for routers with a range of 2,500 to 3,500 sq. ft.

  • Large homes (2,500 sq. ft. and above): Consider high-performance routers with a range of 3,500 sq. ft. or more.

 

STEP 3 DETERMINE DESIRED FIBER SPEED

The desired fiber speed is another critical factor. Different routers support different speeds, and it's important to match the router's capabilities with your internet plan.

 

STEP 4 MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS ROUTER TYPE

Ensure that you are selecting a standalone router and not a router/modem combo. If you have a router/modem combo that you used with a previous service it will likely be incompatible or cause some limitations.

 

WIRELESS STANDARDS

  • Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax): Recommended for the latest devices and optimal performance. However, Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) is still suitable for most residential needs.

 

SPEED

  • Dual-Band or Tri-Band: Dual-band routers (2.4GHz and 5GHz) are suitable for most homes. Tri-band routers add an additional 5GHz band, ideal for crowded networks.

  • Mbps Rating: Match the router's Mbps rating with your subscribed internet speed. For example, if your plan offers 500Mbps, a router with at least 600Mbps is recommended.

 

COVERAGE

  • Antennas: More antennas generally provide better coverage. Consider routers with external antennas for greater range.
